Watch the best Quiz Show in town as Baltimore City Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, City Schools CEO Andres Alonso, Actress/Dancer/Storyteller Maria Broom and Economist Anirban Basu match wits with fifth graders from City Springs Elementary/Middle School, Collington Square School of the Arts, Hampstead Hill Academy and Wolfe Street Academy. Actor and Baltimore City School Board Commissioner Robert Heck will serve as Master of Ceremonies.

Last year our students bested Dr. Alonso, Comedian Mickey Cucchiella, Houston Texans Wide Receiver Bryant Johnson and Baltimore City Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake.

Enjoy dinner, drinks, a silent auction, the quiz show, and live music by the Giggmohr Brothers. All proceeds will benefit the Baltimore Curriculum Project, a 501(c) nonprofit that operates four neighorhood charter schools in East Baltimore.

 
Quiz Show Contestants
Dr. Andres Alonso has served as CEO of Baltimore City Public Schools (City Schools) since 2007. During his tenure, Baltimore City students have reached their highest outcomes in state exams, across all categories of students. City Schools saw its enrollment climb, following four decades of steady enrollment decline. It posted its best-ever dropout and graduation rates. Throughout his career Dr. Alonso has been defined by his fervent commitment to students and their families. He loves Cuban culture. Dr. Alonso graduated Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Columbia University, and earned a J.D. and a Doctorate in Education from Harvard University.
Anirban Basu Anirban Basu is Chairman & CEO of Sage Policy Group, Inc., an economic and policy consulting firm in Baltimore, Maryland.  Mr. Basu is one of the Mid-Atlantic region’s most recognizable economists, in part because of his consulting work on behalf of numerous clients, including prominent developers, bankers, brokerage houses, energy suppliers and law firms.  On behalf of government agencies and non-profit organizations, Mr. Basu has written several high-profile economic development strategies. In recent years, he has focused upon health economics, the economics of education and economic development.  He currently lectures at Johns Hopkins University in micro-, macro-, international and urban economics.
Maria Broom Maria Broom - Although nationally known as an actress for her recurring roles in HBO’s “The Wire” and “The Corner”, Maria is also a storyteller and dancer with more than forty years of performing and teaching in the US and across the globe. She is a Fulbright scholar and former news reporter for the ABC affiliates in Miami and Baltimore. Currently, she is on the theater faculty at the Baltimore School for the Arts. A native of Baltimore, Maria has received many awards and honors including the Eubie Blake Award, the Sarah’s Circle Award and the 2004 Governor’s Arts Award for Individual Artist. In 2007, she was named, Artist of the Year by Young Audiences of Maryland, Inc.
Robert Heck (Master of Ceremonies) - A native of New York City, Robert Heck has worked in the entertainment industry for more than 30 years. His career as an actor and writer includes work in network TV shows, feature films, theater, industrial films and trade shows, as well as commercials and interactive computer presentations. In addition, he has provided creative services to many Fortune 500 companies, government agencies and industry associations. He received a B.S. in Marketing from Fordham University. In 1992 Mr. Heck joined Maryland Public Television (MPT). In an eighteen year career as an on-air host (Bob the Vid Tech), Bob received ten Capital Region Emmy Awards and a national CINE Golden Eagle Award.
Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake Stephanie Rawlings-Blake was sworn in as Baltimore’s 49th mayor on February 4, 2010. She had served as City Council President since November 2007. Rawlings-Blake was first elected to the Baltimore City Council in 1995 at age 25, the youngest person ever elected to the City Council. She represented the Council’s 5th District from 1995 to 2004 and the 6th District from 2004 to 2007, serving communities throughout West and Northwest Baltimore. She also served as Council Vice-President from 1999 to 2007. She  earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Oberlin College and received her Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1995.

The Baltimore Curriculum Project empowers four neighborhood charter schools with the tools, training, and support they need to help every child succeed. Our schools include: City Springs Elementary/Middle School, Collington Square School of the Arts, Wolfe Street Academy, and Hampstead Hill Academy.
